Assertiveness is a method of expressing your needs and wants. To do so is to stand a better chance of getting them met. It is standing up for yourself and choosing to take right action to reach your goals. People with high self-esteem and confidence find it easier to assert themselves. With assertiveness, you:  

Value Yourself

When you know you are worthwhile, you believe you deserve to have your needs and goals met. You believe you deserve respect from others.

Believe in your ability.

To express your needs, you must have “I can” attitude. Therefore, you speak up when wronged. You stand up for your rights and values. You say “No” to say “Yes” to yourself.

Feel motivated.

With assertiveness, you are willing to speak up and/or act to meet your needs. You stand up for your rights and pursue your goals.

Find courage.

When you believe you deserve to have your needs and wants, you let go of fear and assert yourself. So, you live by your values. Thus, you set goals and act to meet your needs and wants.

If you want to have your needs, wants, and feelings honored, assert yourself. Develop the self-esteem to do so with confidence. Thus, you feel respected.
